Care Package

My friend Meg is leaving for Ethiopia on Monday to be united with her daughter. I sent her a care package for Baby Girl last week with the hopes that I would receive my official referral before she left. It is amazing how much stuff you can fit in a gallon sized ziplock bag. The above picture is what I stuffed into that bag. It includes a small Taggie blanket, a cute sleeper with pink and green apples, a pink fishy bubble outfit, ankle rattles, two rattles, two crib toys (to hang on the crib--each section makes different sounds) and my favorite, the towel elephant grab doll that is super soft. It was a struggle, but it fit (barely!!!)

I wanted to include some stimulating toys. In the pictures I have of her, she is very bright eyed, always smiling, and playing with her feet. At 6-7 months of age, she should be rolling over and moving around the crib. I thought the hanging crib toys would be fun for her to explore.

Another friend Kim, will be leaving for Ethiopia in a few weeks to be united with her daughter as well. She also offered to take care packages for waiting parents, so I sent a crib mirror for Baby Girl. I know that babies love to look at themselves, and Kim will make sure it is hung in her crib.

When it is my turn to travel, I will be able to take packages for other waiting parents. This is one of the great things about the internet and networking with other families that are in process with our agency. Families will take care packages and return with photos of our children. These photos are like a lifeline when you are waiting. It is a blessing to get photos and they will be priceless for our children when they are older. I have very few photos of my children that were adopted from China, and it is difficult to explain why I don't have any baby pictures of them.
